Black Mountain Circle
After they leave the bookstore, Kate and Steve will continue as the inspiration behind Black Mountain Circle (BMC), a nonprofit organization they founded to explore the convergence of spirit, story, and place. BMC has co-sponsored many Point Reyes Books events, including the Geography of Hope and Call of the Forest conferences. Giver, Receiver, and Gift:
The Spiritual Practice of Money
Kate will join Abbess Eijum Linda Cutts to lead a daylong workshop at Green Gulch Farm on Sunday, September 4. Participants will explore illusions about money and emotional responses to it. Focusing on fear, shame, and greed, they will examine the interconnectedness of money and spiritual practice through the Buddhist teachings of “dana” or generosity, as well as right livelihood, living within one’s means, how to heal relationships with money, and what money teaches as a part of—not separate from—spiritual practice. Visit the San Francisco Zen Center website for further information and to register.
Save the Date for
Henry David Thoreau
Please join us at Commonweal in Bolinas on Sunday, October 30, at 2 PM for a community reading as part of Commonweal's 40th anniversary celebration. Just ten days before the presidential election, come listen to the words of one of America’s great thinkers, Henry David Thoreau, a man who questioned the authority and process of the United States government while engaged in scrupulously observing the natural world about him, where no sovereign power reigns. Forty local residents will be assembled to read aloud selected passages from Thoreau’s monumental personal journal. Co-sponsored by Point Reyes Books.
