"Every bookshop is a condensed version of the world."
- Jorge Carrion, Bookshops
Italian publisher and writer Roberto Calasso succintly summed up our belief in the value of bookstores in an interview with the Paris Review, saying that "when looking for a book, you may discover that you were in fact looking for the book next to it."
Bookstore are serendipity machines, in addition to playing a host of other valuable roles in the community. It is vital for the health of our culture to maintain these spaces that foster conversation, the exchange of ideas, and provide space to come into contact with humanity through the written word.
We're preaching to the choir, of course, and are so grateful for the immense support we've been shown in our first year as owners of Point Reyes Books. It's with this in mind that we announce a special offer this holiday season:
With any book purchase or CSB deposit of $250 or more, you will receive a free copy of Jorge Carrion's marvelous, brick-and-mortar-affirming Bookshops, one of the most cogent and thoughtful accounts of bookstores we've had the pleasure of reading.
We thank our friends at Biblioasis, the publisher of Bookshops, for helping us in this endeavor and you, who continue to support independent retailers.
